Top 3 Benefits of Wearing Sunglasses

With so many styles available today, many people love to throw on shades just to add some edginess to their look. In fact, it’s never been easier to express yourself through eyewear! Although style has a huge influence on the popularity of sunglasses, those fashionable tinted lenses do far more than make you feel cool.

1.    Protection from UV Rays

Ultraviolet rays from sun exposure can cause a number of eye health problems including cataracts and macular degeneration. Long-term exposure to UV rays without any eye protection may lead to these problems. For this reason its essential to wear sunglasses outdoors. The way sunscreen acts like a protectant for your skin, tinted lenses (especially lenses with a UV protective coating) act as a protectant for your delicate eyes.

2.    Reduce Glare

Are you familiar with that panicked moment when you’re driving along, only to be blinded by bright glare?  It happens to everyone, especially when cruising down a highway, but the bright sunshine that gleams through your windshield is a danger to you and the drivers around you. Indeed, the bright glare can be almost blinding at times, a combination you don’t want while on the road. Glare can occur off the road as well, like the shine that illuminates off a body of water. It’s unpleasant, uncomfortable, and can be dangerous considering the conditions. Do yourself a favor to avoid glare by wearing sunglasses with each daily drive.

3.    Skin Cancer

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “The eyelid region is one of the most common sites for nonmelanoma skin cancers.” The article, found on the Skin Cancer Foundation website, goes on to state, “skin cancers of the eyelid, including basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and melanoma, account for five to 10 percent of all skin cancers.” Although this fact ties in with protecting yourself from UV rays, it still provides true insight on the importance of sunglasses.

Now of course we won’t deny how stylish and fun sunglasses can be. No matter what kind of look you’re hoping to achieve, sunglasses come in array of designs that can certainly suit you. Just know that while you’re looking ultra-cool, you’re also protecting those peepers.
